Casandra Wright’s health journey began in 2012, when she weighed over 450 pounds. She would arrive at the movies early to find a convenient seat where she would not disrupt other people, and she sometimes struggled to buckle her car seatbelt. Eventually, she grew embarrassed by the accommodations her weight required and decided to make a change, hoping to live by her motto: “Life Without Limits.” By 2017, a combination of exercise and healthy diet helped her reach her lowest weight of 232 pounds. In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Wright fell into poor habits, eating to relieve the stress of working in a hectic retail environment, and she saw some of her weight return.
Soon after, Wright heard about the transformation of her coach, Maria DiGrazia, the first-place winner of The 15 Day 25K Contest Season 1. After seeing DiGrazia’s story on Facebook, Wright was inspired to enter The 15 Day Challenge. Not only did Wright enter herself, but she also bought six 15 Day Challenge Kits to encourage her friends and family to join her.
Before The 15 Day Challenge, Wright’s busy schedule would often prevent her from going to her local gym. To stay consistent with her exercise, she began combining her gym workouts with outdoor walks and exercise in her garage. Throughout her challenge, she became more intentional about hydration, drinking less sugary juices and breaking her coffee addiction in favor of water. She claimed that decreasing the amount of sugar she consumed in the morning caused her to crave less sugar throughout the day. In addition to lessening her sugar intake, she practiced more mindful eating habits, warning against snacking in front of the couch, eating too quickly on the go, and letting fast-food apps be a temptation!
Throughout her challenge, Wright lost a total of 14.8 pounds and several inches around her waist, and she built a sense of consistency to carry forward in her wellness journey. “For a while, I was letting my schedule stop me from moving, but when you make a commitment to something, you have to find a way to make it work for you,” she said. “Before these challenges, I was inconsistent with nutrition and movement. I was not taking the time to take care of myself the way I should. The consistency I’ve gained with The 15 Day Challenge and the camaraderie of the community have been good for me.”
